History of Wearyall Hill House
Wearyall Hill House, which was built in 1900  by  John Morland
who started and built the Morlands Sheepskin business
and factory which was the largest tannery in Europe  
 during the late 1800’s and 1900’s & employed 1,700 people.
It supplied and made products for the UK and abroad. His sheepskin
products were to be found in all the major stores in London & other
major cities in the UK and abroad.
The house  stands on top of Wearyall Hill surrounded by open fields.
 The old site is now undergoing
a development program for the Governments
Rural Development Agency at a cost of £23 million,
which is called The Morlands Enterprise Park.

          John Morland also paid  Glastonbury Abbey
for 80 cartloads of earth which was used as part of the
foundations for the house which means it stands on
hallowed ground. He was a very religious & family man(10 great-
Grandchildren).
A committed quaker and a major figurehead of Glastonbury town
He married Mary Clark(Clark shoes) and the formal partnership of
Clark Son & Morland was formed in 1871.He was elected Mayor
Of Glastonbury 4 times and was President of the Antiquarian
Society.
